Soon the three new arrivals join us. Zill and Fawn decide to get cleaned up before extending a proper greeting to Glo. Fawn also walks Tapeetha to her space. I can’t imagine where that will be. I haven’t seen any décor that appears to suit her rugged tastes. Baron and I stay with Glo, Finn and Vayle. It’s warm out and it’s on the verge of evening. We move to the patio where all of us except Finn take a seat around the rod-iron table. Right after we sit down, another individual materializes right beside Glo.

My mouth falls open in awe. “Raz,” I darn near shout at the top of my lungs. I’m filled equally with excitement and bewilderment.

“Hey, Clarity,” he says in that draggy voice of his. This is about as excited as he ever sounds.

I know it’s juvenile, but I can’t help but leap out of my chair, run over to him and throw my arms around him. It’s funny how this feels. In this moment, I’m back at Paradise Cove, watching him and Aries goof off in the foamy waves before they crash against the shore. “What in the world are you doing here?” I exclaim.

“I’m with Glo,” he replies as I finally let go of him.

“How? Why?” I still sound overexcited.

“Yeah,” he says in that lazy tone of his. “I’m a Wek.”

My mouth falls open in shock.

But of course, he’s a Wek! He hasn’t aged a day since I saw him last. Sure, he’s quite scruffy, but underneath it all, like every Wek I’ve seen, he’s quite beautiful. Plus he’s very agreeable and extremely likable to the point where from the age of eleven to about fourteen, even I had a slight crush on him. To me, he was the model of the perfect boyfriend, one that Baron Ze Feldis has definitely lived up to.

“Unbelievable,” I say and turn my excited eyes on Baron. I want to tell him all about growing up with Raz and Aries. How together they created all the happy memories in my life before he came along.

But Baron still has that disturbed look on his face, which formed ever since Finn showed up. There’s something about the vampire, who actually looks more like him than Artiste does that gets his goat. I’m trying to pull the information from Finn’s thoughts in order to figure out what’s going on between them, but he’s a single-minded being. He’s only thinking about the new breed of vampires and the many ways he can put an end to them. I hesitate to experience the thoughts that are playing out deeper in his memories. A small, vacant town, people in cages, a fight; there’s another celestial guardian who wields a sword and there’s a Selell in the tunnel that warned him to lay low because the new vampires are attacking the old ones and killing them. It’s all looping in his thoughts. I even get a bird’s eye view of Glo’s power, and she’s able to do some major damage.
